The Garden and Grounds
Built over 200 years ago by Napoleonic prisoners of war, the magnificent walled garden provides guests with total privacy and the chance to relax in tranquil surroundings. Against a backdrop of enchanting borders and ancient trees, it is a place of beauty and calm whatever the season.
The Garden & Grounds
Set within 60 acres of eighteenth century landscaped grounds, the gardens offer plenty of space to play outdoor games such as croquet and boules while golfers have the chance to practice on the two hole pitching range.
In February, the woods are a mass of snowdrops and aconites; this is followed in spring with yellow daffodils and then pink cherry blossom.
The walled garden extends to five acres and was built to provide the ‘Big Hoose’ with all its fruit and vegetable requirements. Separated into two parts by a dividing wall, the north half has been fully restored and boasts a 100 metre long herbacious border, knarled fruit trees and a new shrubbery- overlooked by ancient yew trees. The southern half is a working kitchen garden with fruit, vegetables and flowers which are available for guests to pick in season.
